Mind the Gap at
New York Theater Workshop
Summer 2011

Application deadline May 10th

Mind the Gap is a free intergenerational theatre-making workshop with half of the participants aged 60+ and the other half high school students aged 14-18. The goals are both to teach playwriting and theatre-making skills as well as to foster better communication and understanding between these two age groups. Through the course of the workshop, participants will work in pairs to interview each other and create a theatre piece inspired by each others’ personal stories. The project will culminate with participants’ work being read by professional actors. Former participants have formed lasting bonds with their intergenerational partners as well as with New York Theatre Workshop.

Classes are taught
by talented young playwright, Alex Lewin.
Mr. Lewin has an advanced degree in playwriting and is an Artistic Associate
with NYTW.

The classes also interact with special guest teachers, such as prominent playwrights
Emily Mann and David Henry Hwang.
